The International (formerly known as the SITE SANTA FE Biennial) was founded in 1995 as a contemporary art exhibition of international significance. A guest curator is invited for each edition to develop a concept that responds to the rich and varied local history of New Mexico, whilst also engaging with current, international artistic concerns. Its 12th edition in 2025 will be curated by Cecilia Alemani; inspired by literature, it will see contemporary artists engaging with the biographies of local individuals to explore personal storytelling and the intimate, human side of art.
Cecilia Alemani (born 1977) is an Italian curator based in New York. She studied Philosophy at the Università degli Studi in Milan and Curatorial Studies at Bard College, New York. From 2009 to 2010, she directed the experimental exhibition space X Initiative in New York. In 2017, Alemani curated the Italian Pavilion at 57th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia and served as artistic director of the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in 2022. Since 2011 she has been the Director and Chief Curator of High Line Art, New York.
