Grants

Phileas collaborates with museums, biennials and art institutions around the world to enable the production and exhibition of new artworks, and their donation to public collections. This is done through an application-based grant process.

Applications for funding collaborations in 2025 have now closed.

Details regarding applications for 2026 will be available soon.

  • Participations of Austrian and Austrian-based artists at international biennials.

Exhibitions of Austrian and Austrian-based artists at international museums and non-profit art institutions, along with accompanying publications, symposia and public programmes.

Priority is given to solo exhibitions. Projects by international artists based in Austria in their countries of origin will not be considered.

  • Applications can be submitted by non-for-profit institutions (museums, biennials, and other art centres) located outside Austria. Applications submitted by artists or commercial organizations will not be considered.

  • The funding of international projects is made possible by the donations of Phileas members.

Following an open call in the spring of each year, a digital application form for funding support can be downloaded from our website. It contains a detailed explanation of the information required, and the selection criteria.

Only projects taking place/beginning in the following calendar year can be considered.

Applications must be submitted in full by the deadline indicated on our website in order to be considered. A written acknowledgment will be sent to applicants upon receipt.

All eligible applications will be discussed and evaluated at an annual meeting of Phileas members within eight weeks of the application deadline and selected by a simple majority. This decision cannot be contested.

The selection of projects is influenced by other applications submitted in the same round. Any financial support that an artist has received in recent years will also be taken into account.

All applicants will be informed of the status of their request shortly after the selection meeting.

Projects selected for funding support will be publicly announced in January of the following year.

A collaboration agreement will be sent to all successful applications to confirm funding support.
