Jenifer Papararo

Jenifer Papararo is the Director at the Art Gallery of York University, Toronta, Kanada, where she is overseeing the building of a new multi-site art gallery. Prior to this, she was Executive Director of Plug Institute of Contemporary Art, Winnipeg, where she worked from 2014 to 2019. Prior to this, she worked as curator at the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver from 2004 to 2014, and the Programme Director at Mercer Union, Toronto, from 2001 to 2004. She initiated STAGES biennial in 2017, a temporary public art exhibition of sculpture and performance in Winnipeg, and curated the 2019 iteration. She has presented solo exhibitions with Joar Nango, DIS.art, Naufus Ramirez-Figueroa, Nairy Baghramian, Stan Douglas, Mike Nelson, and has recently worked with Hannah Black to present The Meaning of Life at the Art Gallery of York University, Toronto. Papararo has written numerous curatorial texts and edited various exhibition related books: including My Best Thing by Frances Stark and the exhibition catalogue Enter the Landscape, and Days of Reading. Papararo is a founding member of the artist and curatorial collective Instant Coffee, as well as being on the Visual/Media Arts Committee at the Toronto Arts Council and being a member of the Board of Directors of Mammalian Diving Reflex. She also serves on the advisory board of Sensorium: Centre for Digital Arts and Technology, and on the editorial board of Fillip.
Jenifer Papararo was invited for a curatorial research trip in 2016 when she was Executive Director of Plug Institute of Contemporary Art.
