Assistant Curator
Thato Mogotsi is a curator and researcher currently working as assistant curator at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), Cape Town. Past projects include co-curating GILT, a seminal retrospective on the decades-long practice of Nigerian-born, British artist, Mary Evans, presented at Zeitz MOCAA in 2023. She has also curated and collaborated on several artist-led and research-informed projects and exhibitions in various South African art institutions including the Johannesburg Art Gallery; the Market Photo Workshop; the Apartheid Museum and Wits School of Art at the University of the Witwatersrand. In 2019, Mogotsi was a curatorial recipient of the Thami Mnyele Foundation’s Residency Award in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Mogotsi’s curatorial practice is shaped by artist-centred exchanges within institutions and is interested in re-evaluating the notions of curatorial responsibility and authorship.
