Anne Glassner & Marit Wolters
Fundació Mies van der Rohe, Barcelona, Spain
16 September – 5 October 2025
The Fundació Mies van der Rohe is a public institution focused on the conservation and maintenance of the world-renowned Barcelona Pavilion in Barcelona. Originally constructed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929 to be the German Pavilion at the World Exhibition, it represents a key work of modern architecture, merging public and private space as well as diverse materials including onyx, steel and glass. Today, its mission is to promote debate, dissemination and awareness of contemporary culture. For the project Lost Limits, Anne Glassner will stage a two-day performance around sculptures by Marit Wolters made of aerated concrete and placed in the pavilion’s large water basin. During the performance, the sculptures will be watered like houseplants by performers wearing suits camouflaged like marble, to allow them to merge with the surrounding architecture of the pavilion. The work sets out to challenge conventional understandings of space and boundaries, inviting visitors to think about the relationship between private sphere and public art environments.
Anne Glassner (born 1984 in Vienna, Austria) studied Art HIstory at the University of Vienna, Fine Arts and Transmedia Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, and Painting at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Her work revolves around repetitive, everyday, often banal acts. In her ‘sleep performances’, she allows people to observe her sleeping in unusual spaces, blurring the boundaries between art and life, public and private. She has exhibited and performed at Maerz Galerie Linz; Dokumentationszentrum für bildende Kunst, St. Pölten; KOMM.ST Lab, Anger; Villa Tugendhat, Brno; House of Switzerland Mulilateral, Vienna; Projektraum Viktor Bucher, Vienna; Periscope, Salzburg; Fotogalerie WUK, Vienna; GG3, Berlin; Stadtgalerie Waidhofen/Ybbs; ViVA, London; Kunsthaus Weiz; Kunstverein rotor, Graz and the Metropolis Theatre, Copenhagen, among others.
Marit Wolters (born 1985) is a German sculptor who lives and works in Vienna. She studied at the University of Dresden, Academy of Fine Arts Dresden and University of Applied Arts Vienna. Her sculptures and installations examine the aesthetic potential of architectural materials, processes and structures and their interaction with social and ecological systems. She had solo and group exhibitions at Bildraum 01, Vienna; Piana Gallery, Warszaw; Kunstverein Schattendorf; Red Carpet Room, Vienna; Belvedere 21, Vienna; Salon75, Copenhagen; Bistro 21, Leipzig; LLLLLL, Vienna; Semmelweis Klinik, Vienna; Villa Tugendhat, Brno; Galerie Frank, Vienna; EFES42, Linz and the Austrian Cultural Forum, among others.
This is the first collaboration with Phileas for both artists.
