Book launch of our First Monograph on Birke Gorm

11 September 2024, 6.30pm
Phileas, Opernring 17, 1010 Vienna

On the occasion of the publication of our next First Monograph on the artist Birke Gorm, we were pleased to host a booklaunch.

Born in 1986 in Hamburg, Gorm is a Danish-German artist based in Vienna who explores material culture and gender roles in her work. She juxtaposes materials and objects deemed useless or “dead” within capitalist systems with traditional domestic production techniques like sewing and woodcarving. Through careful examination and reappropriation, Gorm uses these techniques to give new meaning to materials, challenging traditional notions of value and consumption.

This volume showcases the breadth of Gorm's work through contributions from Michelle Millar Fisher of the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) Boston, Danish novelist Jonas Eika, curator Attilia Fattori Franchini, artist Hannah Heilmann, and photographer Daniela Trost. It also includes a selection of texts that have influenced Gorm's artistic journey.

During the book launch Gorm had a discussion with artist Hannah Heilmann and Attilia Fattori Franchini on her practices and influences.
