Oliver Laric
33rd Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil
7 September - 9 December 2018
The Bienal de São Paulo, founded in 1951, is the second oldest art biennial exhibition in the world. For the 2018 edition, curator Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro proposed a radical shift in the exhibition organisation. Seven artists from different backgrounds, generations and art practices were invited by Pérez-Barreiro to each conceive a group show in which their work stands in dialogue with that of others. As a result, the biennial hosted seven different exhibitions curated by the following artists: Alejandro Cesarco, Antonio Ballester Moreno, Claudia Fontes, Mamma Andersson, Sofia Borges, Waltercio Caldas and Wura-Natasha Ogunji.
The artist Oliver Laric was invited by Alejandro Cesarco to participate in his section of the exhibition, which focuses on positions that reflect upon translation and image. Phileas supported the production of Laric’s new work.
Oliver Laric (born 1981 in Innsbruck, Austria) has upcoming solo exhibitions at the Saint Louis Art Museum (USA); Metro Pictures, New York and S.M.A.K., Ghent in 2018. Past exhibitions include Tramway, Glasgow; Secession, Vienna; Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland; Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv and Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C. He was included in the 9th Liverpool Biennial and in group exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou, Paris; Prada Foundation, Milan; Whitechapel Gallery, London and Fridericianum, Kassel, among others.
