VALIE EXPORT

4th Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India
December, 2018 – March 2019

The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is India’s first ever biennial exhibition of international contemporary art. The biennial seeks to invoke the latent cosmopolitan spirit of the modern metropolis of Kochi (Kerala) and its mythical past, Muziris, and to create a platform that introduced contemporary international visual art theory and practice to India, while at the same time showcasing and debating new Indian and international aesthetics and art experiences.

In collaboration with Phileas, the biennial invited Austrian artist VALIE EXPORT to participate in its 4th edition, which opened in December 2018.

VALIE EXPORT (born 1940 in Linz, Austria) lives and works in Vienna. Past solo exhibitions include Lentos Kunstmuseum, Linz ; Kristinehamns Konstmuseum, Sweden; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Camden Arts Centre, London; MAMCO Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Geneva and Museo National Centro de Arte Reine Sofia, Madrid. Her work formed part of the 2nd Moscow Biennale, documenta 6, documenta 12, and the Venice Biennales of 1978 and 1980 (where she represented Austria). In 2000, the artist was awarded the Oskar Kokoschka Prize, and in 2014 she received the Yoko Ono Lennon Courage Award for the Arts.
