Nikolaus Gansterer

Sharjah Biennial 14, United Arab Emirates
7 March – 10 June 2019

The 14th edition of the Sharjah Biennial opened on 7 March, 2019. Curators Zoe Butt, Omar Kholeif and Claire Tancons, collaboratively conceived this edition of the Biennial entitled Leaving the Echo Chamber. Each of the curators developed a section of the exhibition, which brought together a range of artistic experiences and works to create a series of provocations about how one might renegotiate the form and function of the "echo chamber" of contemporary life. Claire Tancons invited Austrian artist Nikolaus Gansterer to participate in her section of the exhibition, entitled Look for Me All Around You. For the biennial, Phileas co-produced a new work by the artist.

Nikolaus Gansterer (born 1974) lives and works in Vienna. After his studies in Anthropology, he attended postgraduate programmes at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna and the Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht. He has had exhibitions in institutions such as WIELS, Brussels; Metropolitan Art Centre, Belfast; Centre d’Art Villa Arson, Nice; and Glaskasten Museum, Marl.
