Philipp Timischl
16th Biennale de Lyon, France
14 September – 31 December 2022
For the 16th Biennale de Lyon – which opened in September 2022 and curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, recently appointed directors of Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin - Phileas co-produced a new, large-scale installation by artist Philipp Timischl. The project marked the third consecutive collaboration between Phileas and the biennial, following the participations of Susanna Fritscher in 2017, and Thomas Feuerstein, Ashley Hans Scheirl and Jakob Lena Knebl in 2019.
The work of Philipp Timischl (born 1989 in Graz, Austria) moves between video, sculpture, painting and photography, often combining them with text to create site-specific installations. Recurring themes in his work include institutional power dynamics, accessibility, and exclusion. Timischl’s work has been exhibited at the Seccession, Vienna; Centre for Conemtporary Art Futura, Prague; and Kunstraum Innsbruck. In 2021, Phileas co-produced Timischl’s exhibition at Fondation Fiminco, Romainville.
