Cathrin Mayer is an independent curator working with artists and colleagues to produce exhibitions, performances, and publications. She is regularly collaborating with HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in Graz. As part of this collaboration, she has organised exhibitions and performances by artists TARWUK, Kevin Jerome Everson, Colin Self, and Yalda Afsah. Prior to this, she worked as curator at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin until May 2020, where she curated exhibitions, such as Anna Daučíková, Kris Lemsalu, and Evelyn Taocheng Wang. In addition to her curatorial work, she is writing for magazines such as Frieze, Springerin, and PW Magazine. She had several teaching positions among others at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In the academic year 2022/23, Cathrin Mayer holds a Visiting Professorship for Curatorial Practice in the Department of Art History and Theory at the University of Art and Design in Linz.
She is currently working on a substantial group exhibition at Westfälischer Kunstverein in Münster featuring artists from Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia as well as an experimental music and performance program for the newly initiated contemporary art festival in Stockholm titled September Sessions.
Cathrin Mayer visited the Netherlands on a research trip as part of the exchange with the Mondriaan Fonds in 2023.
