In February 2016, Salzburger Kunstverein opened an exhibition of Hans Schabus with a new body of work titled The Long Road from Tall Trees to Tall Houses. For this project, Schabus covered a distance of 5,352 km on his bicycle in 42 days, crossing the United States of America from West to East. Documentation of this journey is based on a daily routine - one photograph taken of his bicycle at high noon, one of the hotel room in which he spent the night, and a postcard that he would send home each day - and provides the basis of the exhibition in Salzburg. The exhibition travelled on to Kunsthalle Darmstadt in an expanded form in early 2017. Both exhibitions, an artist’s book, and an accompanying exhibition catalogue, were realised in cooperation with Phileas.
