Since 1953, the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft im BDI e.V. (the Association of Arts and Culture of the German Economy at the Federation of German Industries) has awarded the annual Ars Viva prize to young artists who live in Germany and whose work is distinguished by its progressive nature. The exhibition of work by the winners was first displayed at Kunstverein in Munich and then at S.M.A.K., Ghent. The three winners for 2018 were Anna-Sophie Berger, Oscar Enberg and Zac Langdon-Pole.
Anna-Sophie Berger was born in 1989 in Vienna, Austria. She has had solo exhibitions at Galerie Emanuel Layr, Rome; mumok, Vienna and Kunsthaus Bregenz, among others. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Austrian Cultural Forum, New York; Luma Westbau, Zurich; Rogaland Kunstsenter, Stavanger, Norway, as well as the 4th Ural Industrial Biennale, Ekaterinenburg (curated by João Ribas) and the 9th Berlin Biennale. In 2016, she was awarded the Kapsch Contemporary Art Prize by mumok, Vienna.
