Christoph Meier

Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain, Luxembourg City
5 May – 9 September 2018

In cooperation with Phileas, Casino Luxembourg invited Austrian artist Christoph Meier for a major solo exhibition for the spring-summer of 2018. With his site-specific work, Meier questions the nature of the artwork and its relation to architectural space and the public. Rather than occupying an exhibition space with his artworks, Meier creates a new space for various encounters. On the occasion of the exhibition at Casino Luxembourg, a monograph was published in cooperation with Kiosk, Ghent and the Kunstverein, Hamburg.

The artist book CCOOOO was produced in occasion of Christoph Meier’s series of three solo exhibitions: C & O at Kunstverein in Hamburg in 2016, C O CO at Kiosk in Ghent in 2017 and CCOOOO at Casino Luxembourg in 2018. Christoph Meier used the extensive materials of the three exhibitions and their different architectures for his publication. Spatial and formal concepts have been transformed into printed matter, as well as their materiality or illusions. The artist book imitates moments of the exhibition cycle and connects them with our own perception. The publication, as well as Meier’s exhibition at Casino Luxembourg, were produced in collaboration with Phileas.

Meier studied sculpture under Heimo Zobernig at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 2003 to 2009. His work has been included in exhibitions at, among others, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art; Austrian Cultural Forum, New York; Triennale di Milano; 21er Haus, Vienna; Kunsthaus Graz; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Nam June Paik Art Center, Seoul; Kiosk – Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent; Gröningenmuseum, Bruges; and Kunstverein, Hamburg.
