Sophie Thun
Kim? Contemporary Art Centre Riga, Latvia
15 July – 12 September 2021
Kim? Contemporary Art Centre in Riga invited the artist Sophie Thun for a solo exhibition, which was produced in collaboration with Phileas.
For this project, Thun engaged with the extensive archive of Latvian photographer Zenta Dzividzinska (1944-2011) to produce an exhibition titled I Don’t Remember Anything that reviewed the work of an overlooked female artist within the context of her own practice as a contemporary female photographer. The exhibition considered questions around time such as: what do we remember, and what do we forget?
Sophie Thun (b. 1985, Vienna) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, before graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Working mainly with photography, her practice is often site-specific and characterized by an exploration of the relationship between the artist’s physical labour and the presentation of the photographic work. Thun’s work has been exhibited in institutions such as the Secession, Vienna; Kunstraum Munich; Kunstforum, Vienna; and the ICA Yerevan.
