Commissions for the 17th Biennale de Lyon

France
21 September 2024 – 5 January 2025

On 21 September, all eyes were on Lyon, where the 17th Biennale opened its doors to the public. Following a research trip by curator Alexia Fabre to Vienna last year, Phileas has funded new commissions by artists Hans Schabus, Robert Gabris, Liesl Raff, and the collective Healthy Boy Band.

Hans Schabus produced a sculptural intervention at Les Grandes Locos to investigate the history of the space, heavy industry in general, and the realities of working in such an environment.

Robert Gabris created a site-specific installation in the industrial space Les Grandes Locos, which addresses the various meanings of the act of caring and repairing, taking the human body as a starting point for exploration.

Liesl Raff installed a 14-metre-long passage that visitors can walk through. Latex, a material which Raff has explored and used repeatedly in recent years, covers the walls of the passage.

Healthy Boy Band organized a gastronomic and artistic performance event at the exhibition's opening to encourage visitors to share and meet one another. In the outdoor spaces of Les Grandes Locos, in the middle of the gardens and between the industrial halls, the three chefs prepared a banquet to which all visitors were invited.
