Open Call: Art Writing workshop on the theme of reportage
13 – 16 March 2025
Phileas, Opernring 17, 1010 Vienna
As part of Phileas’ new art writing initiative, Phileas is collaborating with the Reporter-Akademie to host a free-to-attend, four-day art writing workshop in Vienna in March 2025, during which six aspiring art writers will learn nuanced skills in writing a reportage. The programme will be led by expert lecturers, Anna Dreussi, Benedikt Herber and Gabriel Proedl. Having been allocated an artist to write about in advance, each participant will visit an artist studio. This will inform their writing of a captivating and well-observed reportage, supported with the guidance of the lecturers. The final texts will be published in Austrian media, in collaboration with Die Presse, Falter, Der Standard and Kurier.
The Reporter-Akademie was founded in 2017 by Michael Obert, author and one of the best-known reporters in the German-speaking world. From the very beginning, it was Michael's wish to create a place where both quality journalism and democratic values are strengthened with the Reporter-Akademie. Today, the Reporter-Akademie is an independent, non-profit organisation that is primarily supported by members of the Hermes Baby agency. Gabriel Proedl and Benedikt Herber specialise in publishing narrative journalism and reportages, which offer a creative flair, while observing contemporary life and social activity.
We welcome applications from all aspiring German-speaking journalists, art critics and authors (employed or freelance, over 18), who are based in Austria.
All participants will have full expenses covered, including travel, food and
accommodation (if based outside of Vienna).
Our Open Call is now live and will close on Thursday 16 January 2025, 23:59 (CET).
