Online talk
19 January 2021

In January 2021, Phileas hosted a talk with Cecilia Alemani, Artistic Director of the 59th La Biennale di Venezia, which took place in 2022. Alemani talked about her personal experience as curator of the Italian pavilion in 2017, her approach to the history of La Biennale di Venezia, and led us through the various aspects of her approaches to future work. As curator of the New York High Line, Alemani also discussed her views on curating public art, as well as the current challenges she faces in her curatorial work due the pandemic and travel restrictions.

Cecilia Alemani (born 1977) is an Italian curator based in New York. Since 2011, she has been the Donald R. Mullen, Jr. Director and Chief Curator of High Line Art; the public art programme presented by the High Line in New York. She served as Artistic Director of the inaugural edition of Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires in 2018, curated the Italian Pavilion at the 57th La Biennale di Venezia in 2017, and served as curator for several non-profit Frieze projects from 2012 to 2017.
