In November 2021, Phileas hosted a talk with Sebastian Smee, Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic for The Washington Post. In conversation with our director Jasper Sharp, he discussed the challenges facing cultural journalism in the age of digital social media, and the opportunity that these same channels present to reach wider and more diverse audiences. The conversation marked the beginning of a new initiative by Phileas, as part of which international critics will be invited to Vienna to visit artists, galleries and museums, and to speak publicly about their own approach to writing and broadcasting.
