For the 16th Biennale de Lyon - which opened in September 2022 and was curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, recently appointed directors of Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin - Phileas co-produced a new work by artist Markus Schinwald. The project marks the third consecutive collaboration between Phileas and the biennial, following the participations of Susanna Fritscher in 2017, and Thomas Feuerstein, Ashley Hans Scheirl and Jakob Lena Knebl in 2019.
The work of Markus Schinwald (born 1973, Salzburg, Austria) embraces a range of media from video, sculpture, painting and drawing to photography, performance and puppetry to explore complex dialogues between sociology, philosophy and psychology. Previous solo exhibitions include Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Magasin III, Stockholm; CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco; and La Triennale di Milano.
