Thomas Feuerstein
Donation to Belvedere, Vienna
In 2019, Thomas Feuerstein was invited to participate in the 15th Biennale de Lyon, organised by the curatorial team of Palais de Tokyo. The resultant installation, PROMETHEUS DELIVERED, tied sculpture, drawings and literature together with the story of Prometheus; the demi-god who was punished by Zeus for stealing fire, by being eternally bound to a rock and having his liver eaten by an eagle. At the centre of Feuerstein’s installation was a marble sculpture, slowly decomposing by the action of chemolithoautotrophic bacteria. The decomposed marble would form gypsum, which was then used to produce a series of graphic works; continuing the cycle of renewal.
After the biennial, Phileas extended their support to acquire the series of graphic prints accompanying the installation for the collection of the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, Vienna.
